“YUYUの日本語Podcast” Podcast – Japanese Language Learning Podcast Review

“YUYUの日本語Podcast” is an intermediate/advanced level Japanese language podcast. Yusuke and Kaito have discussions with each other, about various topics, on this podcast. They speak in Japanese throughout each episode, and have conversations the way that native Japanese speakers normally have conversations. The first 30 or so episodes are not necessarily episodes that you would want to listen to if you are looking to learn more specific things about the Japanese language. They only have conversations/discussions, they do not explain anything about what they are saying. They do not explain, or teach, grammar or certain Japanese phrases. Every once in a while they will have a guest that joins the podcast. Somewhere in the beginning of 2020, it seems like Kaito isn’t on the podcast anymore.

The “YUYUの日本語Podcast” Podcast episodes began in August of 2019, and there are currently about 155 episodes available. The episode release schedule is all over the place, with there being anywhere from only 2 episodes some months, to 10 episodes other months. However, they are fairly regular, and you can expect about one episode every week. In addition, episodes are approximately 15 to 30 minutes in length.

As mentioned earlier, they are not teaching anything specific in regards to the Japanese language, at least in the first 20 or 30 episodes. But, there is a Patreon where they provide “YUYUの日本語Pocast” Podcast episode transcripts, if you donate monthly. Barring that, it is a nice podcast to listen to. Later on, Yusuke does get into teaching you different things about the Japanese language. And he does have a guest every once in a while. There are also a few episodes, in early 2020, where each episode is only vocabulary words in Japanese and Portuguese.

Besides the Podcast, there is a YouTube channel where they also post the podcast episodes, among other videos. Yusuke is posting the podcasts on YouTube with Japanese transcripts in the videos; so that can be a good reading and study practice. All of the podcast episodes are not on YouTube yet, and they seem to be posted to YouTube about a year after they were released on podcast. Other videos that Yusuke releases are interviews with other Japanese Language teachers and livestream videos.
