“けんとレイディオChannel” – Podcast for Japanese Language Learning Review

The “けんとレイディオChannel” Podcast for Japanese language learning is for beginner/intermediate Japanese language learners. The title of this podcast in English is “Kento Radio Channel”. This podcast is a recording of conversations between 5 year-old Kento and his father. They talk about a variety of topics in both Japanese and English. They are a Japanese family that lives in the United States, and Kento speaks both English and Japanese. The 2nd episode is great, with Kento making up a scary halloween story on the spot. While there is no structure to learning either English or Japanese with this podcast, it is very interesting and fun to listen to. When things are interesting, you will pay more attention. And then you may pick up a new thing or two in Japanese, or English.

Kento’s father began the “けんとレイディオChannel” podcast in October of 2020. They have since released 97 episodes. But the sad part is that they have not released a podcast since December of 2021. They started off pretty strong, releasing 7 to 10 episodes each month. Towards the end though, they were only releasing 1 episode a week. The episodes vary widely in length, anywhere from around 10 minutes to longer than 60, and even 90, minutes. You can imagine the podcast topics when one of the ‘hosts’ is 5 years old. Anything from Pokemon to kids movies and all things in between that a 5 year old boy would be interested in. Sometimes this is a bilingual podcast, with either Kento or his father speaking for a bit in English. But, the majority of their conversations are in Japanese.

I think you will enjoy this podcast, as I did, even though there are no specific Japanese lessons or grammar points discussed. Just Japanese speakers talking as they normally would in an everyday situation. This is one way that you can use to learn how to speak everyday, non-textbook, Japanese.
