“あかね的日本語教室” Japanese Podcast – Japanese Language Learning Podcast Review

“あかね的日本語教室” Japanese Language Podcast is an intermediate level Japanese language learning podcast. あかね (Akane) is the name of the Japanese woman that published this podcast. “的” (てき/teki) means “target” or “mark”. It is added to an adjective or noun, and has the meaning of “~like”, “style”, or “(something) like”. Adding it on to “effect” would make it “effective”, or make “success” into “successful”. So, this is “Japanese Classroom in Akane’s style”, or “Akane-style Japanese Classroom”. Akane has various platforms that she uses to help Japanese language learners learn Japanese. She has a Patreon, YouTube Channel, Website, Instagram, and teaches on iTalki. Akane only speaks Japanese on her podcast. Well, sometimes she throws in a word or two in Chinese. She speaks at a normal native speed, which could be a little too fast for beginners, or those just getting into listening to native Japanese speakers. However, she does speak clearly, so that you can understand every word that she is saying.

Akane began uploading episodes of the “あかね的日本語教室” Japanese Language Podcast in May of 2020. She posts an episode of the podcast about once each week, but there are months where she may only have one, two, or three episodes released. I’m sure it is tough to make a podcast when you are also making videos, teaching, and filling up an Instagram account. Each episode is approximately five minutes in length. However, every once in a while there will be a short, three minute podcast, or a longer ten minute podcast.

Akane talks about many different topics on her podcast. Everything from morning meals in Japan, to friends, and many other topics. The “あかね的日本語教室” Japanese language podcast is more of a listening/immersion podcast than a teaching podcast. Although, every once in a while, Akane may describe the meaning of a Japanese phrase or grammar point. It is overall, an enjoyable podcast to listen to. Don’t forget to check out her YouTube channel, Instagram, and website where she posts some transcripts of her podcast episodes. She has over 179,000 subscribers on YouTube, so she must make some pretty good videos.
