Walk Hiroshima – Peace Boulevard
Rainy season is about to start here in the Hiroshima, Japan area. Why haven’t I been walking that much recently? I love walking. I really need to get out more and enjoy the outdoors. Let’s hope that there is good walking weather on the upcoming weekends.

I did take a long walk recently down Peace Boulevard in Hiroshima. Just a random walk on a cool morning. Peace Boulevard is a good walk, as there are wide green areas on both sides of the road. These areas are full of trees and a pathway for walking or running. It doesn’t make you feel like you are trapped in the city and right next to the buildings. On one side of you is the main boulevard, which is as wide as at least two traffic lanes in each direction, then you are in the ‘green space’ and on the other side is a small street before the buildings start. The only bad thing about running, or even walking, down Peace Boulevard are the many traffic lights along the road. This is one of the reasons that I like walking in the early morning, not much traffic to deal with.
This is a nice area, the boulevard taking you right along one edge of Peace Memorial Park. The green areas on each side of the boulevard are used for various events throughout the year. The most notable event being the “Dreamination” light sculptures around Christmas each year.
At just under 8 km, round trip, this was a leisurely walk at around 1 hour and 40 minutes. I parked at a small parking lot in Nishi-ku at one end of Peace Boulevard, then walked the length of it until the road enters a tunnel. It was here that I discovered a park. The tunnel brings the road underneath a hill where there is a park of sorts. I walked up one path and discovered a cemetery filled with a bunch of head stones. I could see on my smartphone (Pokemon Go), that the trail kept going around the hilltop, but I didn’t want to walk through the cemetery this time. We’ll leave the rest of the park area for a different walk, time to finish up this walk.
